Here’s your chance to put a face to that name...
Agency for Community Empowerment Ltd or, AfCE, as it is affectionately known to its clients, opened its doors for business on 1st April 2003.
Formed as a not for profit company set firmly within the Social Economy, AfCE has a long and unbroken history in its chosen field.
The roots of the organisation are as a secondary housing co-
This led, in 1991, to a merger between YCHS and the then North Sheffield Housing Association, forming a new Registered Social Landlord (RSL), Arches Housing. The training company was now known as the “Community Initiatives Section (CIS), run almost as a separate business. During this period it became recognised by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) as a training agency for council tenants under the Section 16 tenant empowerment grant regime. CIS remained viable and successful until the early months of 2003, when by mutual agreement with the parent body a demerger took place.
AfCE Ltd became the latest vehicle to provide truly independent advice and training for community groups throughout the North of England.
The AfCE Board is made up of past clients and others who have an interest in its activities continuing to benefit local communities.
AfCE prides itself in its independence, professionalism and ability to tackle difficult community based problems with imagination, knowledge and drive. The Company has no “axe” to grind or hidden agenda, its only aim is to truly empower local people to steer their own futures through democratic and legal means.
